Bodhi Khaya Residency

Bodhi Khaya Residency is an annual two-week, funded, artist-founded, artist-led and process-oriented residency. It was initiated by a small group of artist friends who, after being accepted into international residencies, recognized a lack of similar opportunities within the South African arts landscape. In response, they established the residency in 2021.

The aim is to provide emerging and mid-career South African artists with a space to explore and deepen their relationship with the environment through historical, political, societal, and personal lenses. The residency encourages artists to make these relationships visible, audible, and tangible.

Sasol Competition

The competition is open to all South African artists aged 18 and older who have not yet held a solo exhibition, except for academic exhibitions such as those for a Master’s degree. Artists working across all visual media, from traditional painting and drawing, to printmaking, sculpture, photography, video, and installation, are encouraged to enter. Artists who are represented by established galleries or agents, or who are employed as full-time lecturers in visual art or design, are not eligible.

Artists can submit their entries in person at one of the following eight collection points around South Africa on Tuesday, 10 and Wednesday, 11 June 2025 between 10h00 to 16h00.
